This 1988 animated feature from Don Bluth (An American Tail) focuses on an orphaned young dinosaur, Littlefoot, who has to make his way to the paradise of the Great Valley in order to survive a plague. Along the way, he meets up with some other dinos from different species, and they all bond and travel together. On the way, they have plenty of adventures. Even with elements of suspense, this is a pretty relaxed movie that isn't in a particular hurry to roll out its story. Kids will like the originality of the concept, and the themes of friendship and cooperation are well woven into the fabric of the entertainment, plus the music is great. Bluth's artwork looks good, though--as always--he never seems to quite catch up with the quality of the Disney machine. --Tom Keogh |

The Land Before Time was one of my favorite childhood movies. To this day I still love this movie. Just like alot of other early Don Bluth films it was darker than most children films of its time and had many intense moments. Compared to Secret of NIHM its a little more child friendly, but still mature in many aspects. It makes me wonder why they started turning it into a musical series when the first one had no singing at all. Don't get me wrong I loved some of the sequals, but after I think the 4 or 5 it just got ridiculus. Well anyway for one you have one of the saddest moments ever in a kids film at the beginning of the movie. I tell you till this day that scene pulls at my heart strings. It was just tragic and brutal. Then you have 5 young dinosaurs in a world full of danger and destruction, search for a safe place that may or may not exist, but its the only hope that keeps them going. Plus they must deal with living with each other which isn't always easy to do. I'm not sure about the DVD, but the VHS of this was great. The colors and animation was just perfect and I hope the DVD is just as perfect. You care about every character in this movie and wish for them to pull through. I must confess the ending also had me in tears for reasons I can't explain. The Land Before Time is a beautiful and very underrated film. I recommend it to everyone. I hope in the future they start making dark animated kids films again. |

Childhood memories passed down!! |

I loved this show when I was little and so I shared it with my child. It was just like I remembered! My son is really into Dinosaurs and really enjoyed this movie. He is three and was not scared at all. |

Great Movie |

I've always loved this movie but I think it's especially good for kids dealing with the death of someone close to them. My grandmother recently died and having my 4 yo daughter watch this gave her a sense of understanding (as much as a four year old can). It also teaches kids to accept others who are different from them. |

Terrible quality |

I've never felt the need to write a product review before, however, this one is so bad, I had to. I am by no means a person that is worried about HD quality and such, but this DVD's quality is so terrible, the picture is grainy, it was never digitally remastered and its hard to watch, its just horrible. Plus, this movie was bought for a toddler and I think a lot of the scenes are completely inappropriate for children that young. This is a terrible DVD, for the quality and the movie itself, speaking as the mom of a toddler, for older children it might be more tolerable. |
