Perfect for that classy, unique person in your life |

I wish I could give a description of this fragrance, because it is one of my favorites, but I really can't- it's sort of springy, not too light, not overpowering but unusual enough to stand out from all those cheap candy-coated b.s. fragrances out there. Very unique. Definitely smells expensive, with lots of subtleties - floral but not your typical floral.I'm prety sure I smell iris in there. The fact that this stuff doesn't smell too much like any one thing makes me want to keep sniffing, obsessively. Kinda reminds me of eccentric rich people. Boyfriend doesn't like it, but I don't care. I like it enough to wear it anyway and deal with the whining. |

Playful and intriguing... |
Alien is like summer in a bottle. The description says it's a blend of amber, vanilla, orange blossom and woods--I definitely pick up some sandalwood. This is my favorite fragrance blend, but somehow Alien manages to take this combo and come up with a completely different result. Mugler had a huge hit with his Angel fragrance and all of his perfumes are based on that one scent--except for Alien. Alien doesn't fit the Angel profile. For those of us whose memories stretch way, way back into the 70s and 80s, Thierry Mugler was the guy who perfected that big, beautiful broad-shouldered wasp-waisted look. His suits were so angular and constructed, women looked like insectile GoBots--but oh so sexy. Thierry is out of the fashion biz (the line relaunched in 2008, but Thierry is not part of it...and it shows). The fashion business' loss is perfume's gain for those who love his hipper-than-thou-but-with-humor touch. Alien is Mugler personified. It's not sentimental, not flowery. There is nothing girlish about it, but it's light, playful and very individual. I'm trying to think of something to compare it to and cannot. I like the subtlety. I won't wear perfumes that enter the room before I do. With Alien, the lightness of the fragrance is intriguing; someone has to get very, very close to you to get the full bouquet...and isn't that the reason for wearing perfume in the first place? This is a perfect scent for daytime or the office (especially if you plan on flirting with that cute young guy who's interning in sales). And the bottle alone is worth the price of admission. It's sort of GoBots-like too. Off the hook cool.

Scents are like tastes, they vary from person to person |
I really like this perfume, and I'm torn between giving it a 4 and a 5. It's sexy, but also a little youthful smelling, but not too young. Hard to describe, but I know I've had it complimented already the first time I wore it and I really like it so I'm happy with the purchase. I'll agree with earlier reviewers, it has good staying power which is pretty important in a good perfume!
Giving a perfume review seems a little silly to me, because it's really all about the smell. |
