Guitar case hygrometer |
|
I needed a hygrometer to keep tabs on moisture inside my guitar case. The Caliber III works quite well and is out of the way so I don't worry about damage to my guitar. |

Slow to respond to humidity changes and not as accurate as others |
The unit I received reads about 6.5% low. Also it takes a very long time to adjust to changes (took a full 12 hours to achieve a steady reading in a controlled environment). These two aren't really issues of themselves, but one of the key features is that this device can monitor highs and lows during the day - with such a slow response to changes, I'm unlikely to really see high/low peaks.
Overall it's usable, but the cheaper analog gauges I have are more accurate and respond quickly to changes. |

Hygrometer |
|
It lacks precision. So, only when the level of humidity is below 30% I use the humidifier. But often the humidity level is lower, but the hygrometer would not adjust quickly, but only after 10 or smth minutes. |

Probably good for cigars, not so good for other apps |
I purchased this unit to tell me the humidity in my lumber drying kiln. The unit told me that the relative humidity in my dry kiln was 0%, which is crazy. Other indicators tell me that the RH would be somewhere between 10 and 25%.
I tested the unit using the special bag (costs $3.99, can't remember the exact name), and it was always within 2% as the temperature varied up and down around 65 to 75 deg. F.
At the time I was trying to measure the humidity in the lumber kiln, the temperature was about 100deg. F.
I think that the supplier should state the ranges of temperature and humidity that the unit will work in. |

Great Concept but Doesnt work |
I know other people are giving this good reviews however here was my issue.
Shortly after purchasing this unit and placing in my humidor I noticed that I could not get my humidor up to 70% no matter how hard I tried. I thought I had leaks or something. I ended up putting a cup full of distilled water in the bottom of it to see if that would get the humidity up which eventually i did. But wait, was that mold i see now growing on my humidor draws? It sure was. turns out that my humidor was always at 70% but this hygrometer was reading 10% lower than what it actually was. This means I actually had my humidor up to 80% for while, no wonder i got mold.
So I contact [...] about my issue and they tell me that these units are defective and I need to contact the manufacturer for replacement. Well here I am 3 months after I tried to contact them times with no response. So i guess you should purchase this item if you want to take the chance that you may receive one of the defective ones. Just make sure you figure it out sooner than I did as it was past eligibility to return it to Mychildrensstore.co.uk. |
